The International Museum of Art & Science was the setting for the first meeting of TEEM, a community-based environmental group that will set goals for environmental education on both sides of the Rio Grande/Rio Bravo. The overall goal of TEEM is to build local capacity here in the Valley and Northern Mexico to provide education on environmental issues, so that individuals will have the skills needed to work together to solve and prevent environmental problems.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $100,000 to the International Museum of Art & Science to lead this important effort. The federal assistance will help fund education initiatives aimed to improve the health and quality of life of all residents of the Lower Rio Grande Valley through environmental literacy.

Groups and organizations that offer environmental education will be able to participate in this effort. Representatives from Laredo to Brownsville will participate, as will representatives from Mexico. Preliminary core planning members for the project include the Museum, the University of Texas - Pan American, Region One Education Service Center, the Rio Grande Valley Science Association and the Environmental Science Center of Laredo, and many others.
